Roasted Chesnuts 焼き栗
I made a confession to my children today. I told them my most favourite food in the world is CHESTNUTS (栗 kuri)! I can eat them as much as there is in front of me. They can't hide from me and neither can I. My son said, what about 鰻Unagi = smoke grilled eel, which he knows that I love? Well, it's actually a very close call but I think I have to crown chestnuts to the top!
OK, this is the simplest and the best way to prepare fresh Chestnuts in my opinion! However, in Japan, you can purchase ready-made roasted sweet chestnuts which can never be anything better than everything you can put in your mouth! OK, enough with my love towards nuts here is the "recipe" which I upload for the sake of being No 1 on my favourite food list for now.

Ingredients
Chestnuts
how to
- Heat the oven to 190C.
- Using a small, sharp knife, cut a cross into the skin of each nut.
- Soak the chestnuts in water for about 20 minutes.
- Put in a roasting tin and bake until the skins open and the insides are tender, about 25 minutes.
- Leave the chestnuts in the oven for 5 minutes before taking them out.
Once they are semi cooled, enjoy eating them!
