Sushi Rolls – 巻き寿司

It’s February tomorrow. The year 2018 has just begun and we finished 1/12 of the year already. Time does go fast and it always tells me how we have to appreciate the time we are here to enjoy together.

Last weekend, Kids decided to make Sushi for dinner but we didn’t have proper ingredients so we decided to make sushi rolls with whatever there was in the fridge. Basically, you need rice, seaweeds, (which sometimes can be replaced with other wrappings means and methods), and whatever you can find in your fridge. Sushi doesn’t have to be made with seafood of course. On that day, we conquered my greatest fear of rolling something totally not traditional. We made Sausage rolls which happened to be my son’s idea after I gave them an option to include anything they wish. I prepared the rice and some cooked vegetables, and the rest was almost done by my children. They are getting better in the kitchen! My retirement from the kitchen might come earlier than I wish.

I must say that the taste of the sausage roll was, exactly how I expected it to be, namely sushi roll with Sausage. No surprise there. I must say, the best ones were the sausage rolls with tinned tuna with mayonnaise, which were moister. We will make this for my kids’ friends who don’t want anything to do with “sushi”. Hopefully, it surprises them in a positive way. I am thinking now to extend our experiment and start making Korean rolls, Kimbap. It is very similar to Japanese sushi rolls in the rolling method wise but the flavour and ingredients are quite different.
